About Woof Scout

Find the right dog for your life.

How It Works

Woof Scout uses a weighted scoring algorithm that compares your lifestyle inputs against breed trait data. Your preferences and dealbreaker selections are converted into a preference vector, then scored against each breed's normalized traits (0–100 scale).

Lifestyle factors like exercise time, alone hours, and noise tolerance carry the highest weight. Size, energy, and grooming preferences have medium weight. Dealbreakers apply hard penalties that push poorly-matched breeds out of your top results.

A diversity filter ensures your top 6 results represent different breed groups rather than showing all herding dogs or all terriers.

Why We Built This

Choosing a dog is a 10–15 year commitment. Too many people pick a breed based on looks alone, then struggle with mismatched energy levels, grooming needs, or separation anxiety. Woof Scout gives you honest, data-driven guidance so you can make a better choice for both you and your future dog.

  • This is not veterinary or professional advice. Always consult with a veterinarian, professional trainer, or breed-specific rescue before making adoption or purchase decisions.
  • Mixed breeds are wonderful. Our mix archetypes represent general tendencies. The best way to evaluate a mixed-breed dog is to meet them individually.
